Health or Sickness in Stuart

Would you rather be wealthy or just not poor? Would you rather be attractive or just not ugly? Would you rather be fit or just not fat? Would you rather be successful or just not destitude? Would you rather be HEALTHY or just not SICK? These questions seem simple, but sadly, most people go through life with the high goal of simply avoiding sickness. A  lot of people think that as long as they are not sick that they must be healthy, but that is as flawed a thought as saying, as long as I am not in debt, then I must be rich. It just doesn’t work that way! It comes down to focusing on the positive rather than merely avoiding the negative. each day people take the medication to simply remove symptoms and then call that “healthcare.” How on earth could that be called healthcare when you aren’t working toward health… you are just working to avoid sickness? I call what most Americans are doing “sickcare “rather than healthcare. The take home message here is that chiropractic promotes outrageous health by removing interference in the body’s ablity to function at its God given potential Spread the word! Chiropractic is changing lives!!!

Martin County Bad posture equals bad health

by: Dr. David Jockers (NaturalNews) Bad posture is a modern day health epidemic that is much worse than most people naturally assume. Posture is the window into your spine. The spine has a powerful relationship with the brain, spinal cord, and overall organ function. This intimate connection means that poor posture and spinal health will lead to an overall decrease in brain and organ function. Nobel Prize recipient Dr. Roger Sperry says that the spine is the motor that drives the brain. According to his research “90% of the stimulation and nutrition to the brain is generated by the movement of the spine.” Only 10% of our brain’s energy goes into thinking, metabolism, immunity, and healing. Sperry demonstrated that 90% of brain energy goes into processing and maintaining the body’s relationship with gravity. One of the worst types of health problems people experience is a loss of the natural curves of their spine. Ideally, we should have a 40-45 degree curve in our neck that many chiropractors and neurosurgeons refer to as “the arc of life.” This curve helps to protect the brain stem and the spinal canal for the spinal cord and nerves that travel to every region of our body. Subluxation is the term for misalignments of the spine that cause compression and irritation of nerve pathways affecting organ systems of the body. Subluxations can manifest as pain, but since only a small portion of spinal nerves transmit pain sensations they are often unnoticeable by the individual. Losing the arc of life in the neck, forward head posture, and scoliosis are three of the most dangerous forms of subluxation. Subluxation patterns such as forward head posture and loss of the neck curve are most often created by trauma and/or poor posture. Examples of trauma include the birth process (especially with forceps delivery), falls, car accidents, & sporting activities. The typical individual in our society today spends at least 3-4 hours a day slumped in front of a television, computer, and texting cell phone. These behaviors cause the head to shift forward and create a lasting posture pattern called forward head posture. This ‘forward head posture’ can add up to 30 pounds of abnormal leverage pulling the entire spine out of alignment and may result in the loss of 30% of vital lung capacity,” says University of California’s director of physical medicine and rehabilitation, Rene Cailliet. As forward head posture decreases lung capacity it affects the body from effectively oxygenating cells. This can lead to asthmatic conditions, blood vessel problems and heart disease. The oxygen deficit affects the entire gastrointestinal system leading to altered nutrient absorption and peristaltic activity. Lowered oxygen states also decrease endorphin production turning the perception of non-painful sensation into pain experiences. Some chiropractors specialize in corrective care techniques that reduce or eliminate forward head posture and restore the natural curves of the body. This is done through gentle & specific adjustments that take pressure off of the brain stem and nerve pathways and enhance function to the body. Corrective rehabilitative exercises are prescribed to address postural abnormalities and create lasting objective postural and x-ray changes. Specialized chiropractors are able to demonstrate these changes to the individual with pre-post x-rays, nerve scans, postural pictures and other technology. Studies have shown that corrective based chiropractic care effectively reduces forward head posture and enhances the arc of life. A 2009 study by Morningstar and Jockers showed that this corrective process dramatically enhanced lung function. As the respiration process improves more oxygen gets into the body. This improves blood flow into every organ system of the body dramatically improving overall function. http://www.draxe.com/asthma-heart-d… http://pathoflifechiro.com/custom_c… http://www.chiropracticlifecentre.c… Improvement in Forward Head Posture, Cervical Lordosis, and Pulmonary Function with Chiropractic Care, Anterior Head Weighting and Whole Body Vibration: A Retrospective Study-Mark Morningstar DC, DAASP, FRCCM, FAAIM 1, David Jockers DC, MS, CSCS2J. Stuart Food Label Literacy – Identifying Products With Excellent Nutrition

by: Nathan Schilaty, D.C. (NaturalNews) Each and every day, we consume products that have mandatory food labels — Nutrition Facts. These labels are regulated by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and are designed to inform the consumer of the actual components of the foods that they are consuming. Food labeling is required for prepared foods and is voluntary for raw produce and fish. The Nutrition Facts are based off of a 2000 calorie diet, a standard of the needed calories for the energy requirements of an average person. A calorie is a quantity of energy that is derived from either a gram of fat, protein, or carbohydrate. One gram of fat will produce 9 calories, while one gram of a protein or a carbohydrate will yield only 4 calories. Many people are so involved in counting calories that they forget to recognize the most important factor of nutritional content. One could consume 2000 calories and easily not receive any nutritional content; the body, hungry for nutrients, will require more food — the individual will oblige and consume more food. This type of eating has been termed “eating empty calories.” The result of eating “empty calories” is an overfed and undernourished individual. Most Americans eat enough calories, but are still malnourished! Thus, it is important to know how to read food labels to ensure one receives adequate nutrition. The earth makes nutrients that are vital to our health; no wonder why Hippocrates, the “Father of Medicine” stated, “Let thy food be thy medicine and thy medicine be thy food.” To properly read food labels, begin with the serving size. If the serving size is extremely small, chances are the manufacturer of the product wants the calorie, carbohydrate, total fat, and protein content to appear reasonable. In order to accomplish this tactic, food manufacturers can legally make the serving size unreasonably small. Eat organically! Even though organic foods are more expensive, you can rest assured that there has been no pesticide or fungicide use, no artificial hormones, and no harmful chemical fertilizers. In addition, organically grown foods emphasize the use of renewable resources and the conservation of soil and water. Not only are organically grown foods better for you, but they are also better for the earth. Third, study the list of ingredients; the best nutritional information about a food product is in this section. Follow these guidelines to ensure better nutrition and health: * Look for ingredients that have recognizable names — chemicals are long, difficult words and are added to foods for flavor enhancement or to serve as a preservative. These chemicals create long-term toxic effects on the body and on one’s health. A good rule to live by: if you would not like to spell or pronounce the word, chances are you should not be putting it in your body (think about the names of pharmaceuticals). * Ensure the presence of whole grains. Consider the following — whole grains are capable of producing more grain when planted in the ground. Flour and processed grains lack vital components of a whole grain and are not capable of growing anything if placed in the ground. Therefore, only whole grains are capable of producing valuable nutrition and health. Another fact to consider –- if flour and water are used to make paper-maché, what do flour and water make inside of you? * Avoid artificial colors and flavors. Would you eat an apple artificially produced in a laboratory? If not, then why would you want to consume an artificial flavor or color made in a laboratory? Artificial colors have a USDA certified tag FD&C — Food, Drug, and Cosmetic. These colors are approved for use in foods, drugs, and cosmetics. Not only can the same colors in your food be used in cosmetics, but many of these artificial colors have been linked to cancer. * Avoid trans fats — they are poor for your health and do not occur naturally in nature. Trans fats are used in food products solely for the benefit of the manufacturer because it increases food “shelf-life”. Amounts of trans fats in food content are permitted to be rounded down. For example, a product can have 0.49 grams of trans fat and still be labeled as containing no trans fats! To avoid trans fats, do not consume any food that has “partially hydrogenated” oil listed in the ingredients. * A “fully hydrogenated” fat is a manufactured saturated fat. These should also be avoided as they do not occur … Continue reading

Sleep and Walking Improved in a Two-Year-Old with Chiropractic

In the May 4, 2011, issue of the scientific periodical, the Journal of Pediatric, Maternal & Family Health, appears a case study documenting chiropractic care helping a two-year-old boy who was having trouble walking after having recovered from a broken leg. In this case, the boy had suffered a broken tibia in his leg by falling down some stairs. The boy received medical care and was placed in a cast. The cast was removed after 8 weeks when the fracture had healed. After removal of the cast, the boy was experiencing trouble walking and was subsequently brought into a chiropractor to see if he could be helped. The boy’s mother reported that prior to his accident, her son was able to walk normally. She noticed that after the accident, her son had trouble walking on the leg that was not broken and that he now had a toe-in positioning of both feet while standing and walking which were not present prior to the fracture. A chiropractic examination was performed including asking the boy to walk and run. The doctor noted that when walking the boy had a greatly exaggerated toe-in gate which made it difficult for the boy to keep his balance. When running, the boy did not use his right hip or knee, but instead used his body mass to move that side of his body. He did, however, use the left side normally, even though that was the side of the fracture. It was determined that vertebral subluxations were present in the boy’s thoracic and pelvic regions, and a course of corrective adjustments was initiated to correct the subluxations. On the first visit, the parents, who were under care and were anxious to get their son adjusted, mentioned that their pediatrician expressed concerns about getting the boy adjusted. After being reassured that the adjustments given to their son were specifically designed for the child’s size, care was initiated. On the second visit, the parents reported that their son was walking somewhat better and he had slept normally for the first time in a while. By the fifth visit the boy was walking much better and the only noted abnormality in his gait was when he was running. By the 14th visit, the boy had no problems with either walking or running and he had slept normally ever since his first adjustment. In their study conclusions, the authors explained their results by stating, “This case study described a pediatric patient with a healed tibial fracture. During the time of casting, compensation led to fixations in the spine, pelvis and lower extremity. Chiropractic care helped to restore the child’s normal gait, range of motion, and sleeping patterns.”

Palm City Chiropractic Brings Better Birth Outcomes

by: Sheryl Walters (NaturalNews) Chiropractic during pregnancy is an important part of prenatal care. Unfortunately, not enough women know of the benefits of chiropractic care both for themselves and their unborn baby. A woman’s body undergoes an amazing amount of changes during pregnancy. As her baby grows her musculoskeletal system must adjust accordingly to accommodate the growing uterus and prepare for delivery. Chiropractic care helps her body to stay aligned as these changes occur and also helps to keep the nervous system functioning at its optimal level. Many pregnant women experience low back pain, hip pain, and pubic symphysis. These discomforts are the result of the stresses put on the body by the rapid growth of the baby and the changes the body must undergo to accommodate those adjustments. As her belly gets bigger, the woman’s center of gravity changes. The growth is so quick that it is often difficult for the low back and pelvis to adjust to this change. This causes stress in those areas, resulting in misalignments, (or subluxations as they are called by chiropractors) which then causes pain and dysfunction. If a woman’s low back and pelvis was out of alignment before her pregnancy it is even harder for her back and pelvis to adjust. When the pelvis is subluxated (misaligned) it affects the uterus and the position of the growing baby. The uterus is connected to the pelvis by ligaments: the broad ligament, the uterosacral ligaments, and the round ligaments. Like a hot air balloon tethered to the ground, these ligaments work to keep the uterus in the proper place in the pelvis and allow support as the uterus grows to accommodate the growing baby. If the pelvis is subluxated, these ligaments can become torqued. When the ligaments are affected, they directly affect the position of the uterus which can result in the baby not being in an optimal position. This type of situation may result in a breech baby or a transverse (sideways) baby. The goal of the chiropractor is to correct the subluxations in the pelvis to help balance the uterus and allow the baby to get into a better position. Chiropractic adjustments for a pregnant woman are specific, gentle, and safe. Some chiropractors are certified in the Webster Technique which is a technique that is used to relieve intrauterine constraint caused by imbalance in the pelvis and the pelvic ligaments. Webster certified chiropractors adjust the pelvis and also feel for and relieve tension in the round ligaments. Besides increasing a pregnant woman’s comfort level, an aligned pelvis can result in a quicker, safer, and easier birth. When a baby is in breech or transverse position a cesarean section is almost always performed. Because they are so common many people forget that a c-section is a major abdominal surgery and can be risky. Helping the baby to get into a proper head-down position by balancing the pelvis and ligaments helps to avoid c-sections due to baby positioning. Other variations in baby position such as a tilted head or a “sunny side up” baby (face up during delivery) can also be caused by pelvic imbalance and may result in a more difficult, painful, and longer labor and delivery. Jensen Beach Avoid the Big-Time Corporate Heart Attack

By Al Sears, MD You probably know that Enron CEO Ken Lay’s life was cut short by a heart attack. His doctors knew he had heart disease. In fact, he had suffered several heart attacks before the one that killed him … and he’d been taking statin drugs to lower his cholesterol for years. Statin drugs work by blocking the body’s production of cholesterol. This lowers total cholesterol – not just “bad” LDL cholesterol but also “good” HDL cholesterol. And to avoid developing heart disease – even to reverse damage that’s already been done – HDL is key. HDL can reduce your risk of heart disease regardless of your LDL levels. The Framingham study (the most reliable and unbiased source of data for heart disease risk) shows that if your HDL is high enough, your LDL will have no negative impact on your heart health. In fact, if your HDL is above 85, you are at no greater risk of heart disease if your total cholesterol is 350 than if it’s 150. Here are four natural ways to increase your HDL: 1. Exercise in intervals – at progressively higher intensity as you get used to it – for 20 minutes every other day. 2. Eliminate trans-fats from your diet. Cut out breaded/fried foods, commercially baked crackers and cookies, and anything containing hydrogenated or partially hydrogenated vegetable or soybean oil. 3. Increase your omega-3 fatty acids by adding fish oils, avocados, nuts, olives, and eggs to your diet. 4. Add fresh garlic to your meals as often as possible. Thanks for sharing Dr. Sears. Palm City Why Chiropractic If You Don’t Have Pain? (Powerful New Anatomy Research on the Global Health Benefits)

by Dr. Norton on January 24, 2011 Most people pursue chiropractic care when they have back pain, neck pain, or headaches, and then typically not until other treatment efforts or the passage of time have failed to provide relief. When relief is obtained the problem is assumed to be solved, with no further need for spinal attention. This may be the way you’ve been trained to think as well. However, there is a much bigger reason to care for your spine. Consider the following key points. Your nervous system travels through and anchors into your spine, and runs every aspect of your health and life. When you experience a physical trauma such as a car accident or an emotional overwhelm, your nervous system communication, which needs to be finely-tuned, gets disrupted. You might be thinking “But I feel fine, I don’t have any pain, so I must be okay”. Keep reading to see why this conclusion could be costly. Do you desire a longer, healthier life or simply no pain? Here are a few highlights from a basic science research article published in the Journal of Clinical Neuroanatomy in Nov. 2009. It reveals significant connections between neck misalignments, a distressed autonomic nervous system, disturbed system-wide physiology, and possible disease consequences. It goes on to explain why gentle precise adjustments (like we provide with our instrument approach) especially of the neck, contribute to enhanced whole body health. There is a critically important nerve center at the junction of your neck and head (nucleus intermedius) that coordinates autonomic control of your internal organs to changes in your posture. Misaligned positions and abnormal motion of your neck vertebrae stimulate distress messages to this nerve area. The greatest influence is to the circuits relating to the cardiovascular system, especially evoking changes in heart rate and blood pressure. These connections help explain the study results reported in the Journal of Human Hypertension in March 2007, which showed that precision neck adjustments significantly reduced blood pressure, and the outcomes remained stable during an 8 week follow-up period. The disturbed nerve activity from neck misalignments has also shown negative influences on respiration, immune activity and other essential internal systems. This is further explained and illustrated through patient stories in my book “Where Does it Hurt?” There’s one more extremely important point I must share from this research. The nerve fibers irritated by the spinal misalignments induced by trauma and stress weren’t pain receptors! This confirms that non-painful misalignments, especially in the neck, negatively alter the function of the autonomic portion of your nervous system, the part that adapts you every day to the stresses of life and prevents you from developing disease. This was apparent in the 2007 blood pressure study mentioned above. The authors noted that none of the patients whose blood pressure was significantly reduced by the chiropractic adjustments were suffering from neck or back pain! Yes, as Chiropractors we help large numbers of people every day with their back pain, neck pain, headaches, and more. But I want you to see the bigger picture. Your nervous system is the primary determinant of your health and life. Prioritize your care of it, regardless of pain or well beyond its resolution, and you will be well-served. Martin County-Chiropractic Helps Digestive Disorders

by Dr. David Jockers (NaturalNews) Over $80 billion are spent each year on drugs to relieve heartburn, acid reflux, bloating, gas, irritable bowel, constipation, diarrhea and other digestive disorders. These symptoms of abnormal digestive are becoming increasingly more prevalent in our society. Science and research have shown that chiropractic care offers a powerful solution to this modern-day epidemic. The nervous system controls digestive function from several different regions. The vagus nerve which courses out of the brain stem and runs near the atlas bone innervates all the major organs of digestion and functions to stimulate the digestive process. Other major areas controlling the pace of digestion include the sympathetic nerves coming out of the thoracic & lumbar regions and the sacral parasympathetic nerve fibers. Spinal misalignment in any of these regions can lead to neurological compromise and altered digestive function. Wellness oriented chiropractors search for the location of such spinal misalignments termed `subluxations.` A specific chiropractic adjustment realigns the altered regions and restores nerve supply to the deficient organs. This approach honors the body’s innate ability to heal and works to harmonize this incredible life force in order to enhance organ function & quality of life. Several studies have demonstrated the power of chiropractic adjustments restoring optimal function in individuals with digestive disturbances. In a published case study, a young woman had been afflicted with IBS symptoms once or twice a week for 5 years. After one adjustment she noticed an easing of symptoms and within a short time all her digestive problems disappeared. When the report was published 2 years later she was still symptom free. A 2008 study demonstrated how effective chiropractic care is for infants with digestive disturbances. Researchers chose three infants who were experiencing infrequent bowel movements from once a week to once every 3 or 4 days. Parents of these infants had tried several different laxatives and other procedures recommended by their medical staff. They had also followed specific dietary changes and the use of cod liver oil and mineral oil without any results. The infants began wellness oriented chiropractic for periods ranging from three weeks to three months. According to the study author Dr. Larry S. Arbeitman, D.C., “ All three experienced almost immediate improvement. By the end of the study all three had bowel movements at least once every day.” Subluxations within specific areas of the spine can prevent the bowel from functioning properly. Throughout the years it has been common place to see instances of people of all ages who have not had a bowel movement for days experience almost immediate relief after an adjustment. Regular chiropractic care can help patients establish a more natural rhythm of comfortable, effortless elimination. Wagner, T., J. Owen, E. Malone, and K. Mann. 1996. Palm City-How Can Chiropractic Help With An Ear Infection?

Let Me Explain… At the very top of your neck there are nerves that control special muscles in the ear. These muscles pump the fluid from the ear canal. When the bone at the very top of you spine becomes misaligned by poor posture, birth trauma, bike accidents or any other event it can put pressure on that nerve and interfere with those muscles. In other words they…”Turn Off the Pump” Think About This… If you had a swimming pool and someone turned the pump off what would happen? In about 2 days it would turn green! When water stands still it grows algae! So what can you do about it? You could throw a big bucket of shock or chlorine in the pool and that would kill the algae and turn the pool would be clean. The problem is that if you do not turn the pump back on it would turn green again in just a few days. This is What Most People Do With Ear Infections! They “shock” the ear infection with antibiotics but never address the CAUSE of the infection in the first place. This is why you are often back at the doctor getting a new antibiotic in just a few weeks. And then again and again. When we adjust the spine we relieve the pressure off the nerve and allow the pump to start moving fluid again. We are allowing the body the chance to work the way God designed it! I hope this makes sense!
