I’ve been doing some reading lately on a term you may not have heard of called “kiroshi”. The term is Japanese in origin, and most closely translates to “death from overwork”.

This phenomenon was first discovered several decades ago by Japanese doctors who were attempting to determine the cause of death of some perplexing mortalities, people who simply died from no other obvious causes. What they came to realize was that people who work, work, work without ever taking time to rest and recharge will LITERALLY work themselves to death!

It is estimated that over 10,000 deaths are reported in Japan every year from kiroshi. And do you wanna’ know the CRAZY part? There is only one country on the planet where the average worker works more hours than Japan. You guessed it: the United States!

Here’s an interesting fact for you. In the U.S., there are more reported heart attacks between 8:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m. Monday morning than any other comparable time period of the week. What does that mean? Some people would rather DIE than go to work!

Why am I telling you this? I take it very seriously when I say that YOU NEED TO TAKE TIME TO REST AND RECOVER!!! Our culture generally looks at recovery time as a weakness, but you life could LITERALLY depend on it!
